Assistant Professor, Social Work
We are looking to appoint an Assistant Professor in Social Work to join the social work team in the School of Sociology & Social Policy at the University of Nottingham.
In this role you will develop and deliver teaching on taught modules and Skills Days and assess students’ work. As a key member of our team, you will inspire and guide students at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels, helping to develop innovative and impactful degree programmes. Beyond the classroom, you will supervise postgraduate dissertations and provide essential academic, pastoral and placement support to students, helping them thrive both academically and personally. You will also contribute to the effective management and administration of the school.
We are looking for someone who can draw on their experience of social work practice and use this in their teaching in ways which help students to integrate theory and practice, involving people with lived experience as appropriate.
We welcome applications from candidates with research experience, as this post is available on an R&T (Research & Teaching) contract. We also welcome applications from those who do not yet have research experience but do have a background in social work practice and education, who would be eligible for appointment on a T&CL (Teaching & Curriculum Leadership) contract.
A successful candidate will need to be educated to Masters level or above, a qualified social worker and registered with Social Work England.
To be considered for an R&T contract, which includes work load hours for research, you must hold a PhD and be research active – as evidenced by high quality peer-reviewed publications within the current REF cycle.
The Centre for Social Work offers Social Work England accredited undergraduate and postgraduate degree programmes and is an active member of the D2N2 Social Work Teaching Partnership.
