The School of Psychology at the University of Nottingham is seeking to appoint a full-time Research Associate/Fellow to support Dr Alexa Spence.

This position is funded by a new ESRC Project grant titled “Data Donation for Climate Action: Linking Psychological Perceptions to Behaviour via Digital Footprints”, which starts on 1st October 2024. A parallel position is being advertised for a Data Science researcher within the Business School at the University of Nottingham and successful applicants will work closely with one another.

This project will build on the latest thinking in Psychology and Data Science to develop new methods, tools, and infrastructure that harness personal Digital Footprint data donation to test and enhance theories of environmental behaviour. This role will include the examination of perceptions of the environmental impact of food commodities, matching these perceptions with store card data donated by participants, and the examination of barriers and ethical issues associated with personal data donation.

The successful candidate will:

  • Have a PhD (or be near to completion) or equivalent in Psychology or the equivalent in professional qualifications and experience in research area.
  • Have experience in setting up and developing online surveys and experiments (including considering ethics and data management).
  • Have experience in developing qualitative studies and analysing related data
  • Have high analytical ability to analyse and interpret quantitative data whilst using appropriate statistical analysis packages (e.g., SPSS, AMOS, R).
  • Have excellent communication and organisational skills, including prior experience in disseminating research (e.g., through publications and conference presentations).
  • Proven ability to work independently and to take initiative whilst working collaboratively as part of an interdisciplinary team.
  • Be able to support other researchers within the wider research group.
  • Play an active role in the research community within the School of Psychology.
You will play an important role in a novel and exciting interdisciplinary project, with opportunities to attend conferences and publish high impact papers.

This role is fixed term for a period of 1 year, and we hope for a start date in October 2024. Hours of work are full time (36.25 per hour). Job share arrangements may be considered.

Requests for secondment from internal candidates may be considered on the basis that prior agreement has been sought from both your current line manager and the manager of your substantive post, if you are already undertaking a secondment role.
