Applications are invited for a Research Associate/Fellow positions within the Power Electronics Machines and Control (PEMC) research group, University of Nottingham, UK.

The successful candidate will support several research projects funded by EPSRC and Horizon Europe in characterisation, modelling and design of Wide Bandgap Power Modules and Circuits. This could include the measurement of static, dynamic and reliability characteristics, models for electronic packaging, circuit (e.g. interconnects such as wirebonds, solder joints and PCB), and semiconductor devices (e.g. SiC-MOSFET, GaN-HEMT etc.), design of the wide bandgap modules and circuits to achieve high efficiency and power density.

Candidates should hold or be about to obtain a PhD in electrical/electronic, mechanical or materials engineering or a related subject.

Candidates should also have the ability to work independently within a multidisciplinary research team and have excellent communication and presentation skills.

Technical skills and knowledge in the following areas are essential:

  • General laboratory practical skills, e.g. use of electronic test equipment for electrical, thermal characterisation of electronic components.
  • Knowledge of wide bandgap (SiC/GaN) power semiconductor devices and their characteristics.
  • The ability to model power semiconductor devices or simulate power electronics circuits using software (at least one from below: MATLAB/Simulink, LTSpice, PSpice, Saber, TCAD, PLECs….)
  • Experience of designing PCB and circuits for semiconductor device test and evaluation

The post is offered on a full time (36.25 hours per week), fixed term contract for 24 months. Job share arrangements may be considered.

Requests for secondment from internal candidates may be considered on the basis that prior agreement has been sought from both your current line manager and the manager of your substantive post, if you are already undertaking a secondment role.
