Nottingham University Business School (NUBS) is a global leader in business education, shaping the future of responsible business and management in an interconnected world. We aspire to deliver an unparalleled learning experience that transforms our students into visionary leaders and change-makers.
Our goal is to be recognised as one of the top 50 business schools in the world, renowned for our excellence in teaching, research, and thought leadership. We have recently embarked on a multi-year programme to refresh and restructure our School to more effectively leverage our unique tri-campus, global character and provide a truly immersive educational experience that prepares our students to navigate the complexities of a rapidly changing business landscape. Please see further information about the Business School here.
We seek to appoint new Professors of Practice who will help the School deliver this goal. There are a variety of tasks and functions where additional support would be valued from new Professors of Practice including, but not limited to:
- Educating, supporting, developing, and mentoring students and staff.
- Proactively leading on the realisation of a subset of the School’s strategic objectives.
- Maximising the potential for meaningful, long-term, constructive interactions with practice in a relevant subject area.
- Increasing the level of practice focused engagement and impact (generally or specific sectors).
- Assist in the design and delivery of the Business School curriculum (for example, co-creating new degree programmes so they reflect the reality of the real world).
- Enhance the reputation of the School across communities of practice beyond the purely academic.
- Enhancing the School’s external ranking and reputation.
- Leading targeted external engagement activities.
We welcome applications from candidates with a good honours degree or equivalent professional qualifications or experience, together with a distinguished record of professional achievement in a commercial or public sector organisation. Other qualities include a high-level analytical capability to facilitate conceptual thinking, innovation, and creativity, together with evidence of the ability to transfer external experience into excellent teaching or mentoring (for example, through a record of previous teaching and/or engaging in a group setting and/or mentoring and coaching).
Applications from those with previous experience of operating at the interface of academia and practice would be particularly welcomed. It is not a requirement that successful candidates will have been or plan to be research active. However, applications from those with active research interests are also encouraged. It is more important that applicants can inspire all of those that they teach and/or mentor and can provide an excellent bridge between academia and practice.
This will be a part-time (negotiable case by case but typically 7.5 – 15 hours per week), fixed-term post available to 31st July 2025.
Informal enquiries may be addressed to Professor Andrew Bacon email andrew.bacon@nottingham.ac.uk. Please note that applications sent directly to this email address will not be accepted.
