Salary:  £26,396 to £32,348 per annum (pro-rata if applicable) depending on skills and experience. Salary progression beyond this scale is subject to performance.

We are looking for a friendly, engaging, enthusiastic person to join the School of Computer Science Research Systems Team. You will be part of the IT support team providing, managing, and supporting IT services for Staff, Researchers and Taught Students. The Team is the primary IT support contact for research and development projects in the School, and the Senior Technician is responsible for supporting devices which may include those running various desktop, server, and mobile operating systems. The team is also responsible for supporting other devices including robots, VR/AR equipment and Internet of Things devices. Knowledge or experience in these areas is desirable but not essential.

The available post is based in the School of Computer Science, based on Jubilee Campus. 

You will:

  • Be first line of support for fault finding and diagnosis of hardware/software issues.
  • Install operating systems (Windows and Linux) and re-image machines using the University’s SCCM server.
  • Maintain the School’s inventory and asset management systems.
  • Create and amend automation scripts for a range of tasks.
  • Work with colleagues to manage the School’s server infrastructure including installation of new machines and maintenance of existing assets.

And you will bring:

  • Demonstrable experience of providing technical support within a wide-ranging and varied environment.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently to resolve technical queries.
  • Provide and maintain a high level of customer service whilst working to deadlines.
  • Accuracy, reliability and the willingness and adaptability to learn new skills and procedures to improve service provision.
  • A positive attitude to building and maintaining professional relationships with colleagues.

The post is offered on a fixed term contract for 1 year. Hours of work are full-time (36.25 hours); however, applications are also welcome from candidates wishing to work part-time (minimum 29 hours per week).
