We are seeking to recruit a highly motivated and enthusiastic Synthetic Chemist/Chemical Biologist for a Research Associate/Fellow post funded by the Leverhulme Trust, working in the research group of Dr Nicholas Mitchell based in the School of Chemistry at the University of Nottingham (https://nicholasjmitchell.wixsite.com/themitchellgroup).
The role involves the development of a novel approach to peptide and protein modification via visible-light-catalysed carbon-carbon bond formation. The project will focus on the installation of biologically relevant chemical modifications and non-proteinogenic functionality into peptides/proteins/amino acids of interest.
Candidates should have a strong background in synthetic organic chemistry, ideally with experience in peptide chemistry. Extensive experience in the characterisation of complex organic molecules is essential. Experience in one of the following areas would be desirable: i) protein bioconjugation; ii) photocatalysis; iii) radical chemistry. Candidates should have experience of preparing high quality supporting data for publications. Candidates should have (or be about to complete) a PhD in chemistry, have excellent organisational, communication and team working skills, and be comfortable supervising junior researchers.
The School values diversity and is committed to equality of opportunity. The School of Chemistry holds a Silver Athena SWAN Award in recognition of our commitment to advancing women's careers in science.
You can read more about what this means at http://www.athenaswan.org.uk/ and on our website http://www.nottingham.ac.uk/chemistry/about/athena-swan.aspx
The post is offered on a full time (36.25 hour), fixed term contract with an end date of 30th April 2026. Job share arrangements may be considered.
Informal enquiries may be addressed to Nick Mitchell (Nicholas.Mitchell@nottingham.ac.uk). Please note that applications sent directly to this email address will not be accepted.
