An exciting opportunity has arisen for an ambitious and talented psychologist or behavioural economist to join the School of Psychology as part of the NIHR BTRU in Donor Health and Behaviour with work on an the NHS Blood and Transplant (NHSBT: England's blood service) funded PROMOTE (Enhancing Plasma Donor Recruitment and Retention by ExplOring MOtivations and Barriers to Develop InTErventions) project in collaboration with the University of Queensland).  

There is an increased demand within the NHS for plasma-derived medicinal products (PDMPs) which are used to treat over 50 different diseases including immunological, neurology and haematological diseases. To meet this challenge NHS Blood and Transplant (NHSBT) are looking to develop England’s plasma donation programme. Central to this is developing strategies to encourage new plasma donors and convert these into repeat plasma donors. This requires an understanding of the motivations and barriers to recruitment and retention, as well as who to target (whole-blood donors or the general public) and the perceived efficacy of a range of recruitment/retention strategies, which is the focus of the PROMOTE project. 

The post-holder will be based in School of Psychology at the University of Nottingham and work as part of the BTRU in Donor Health and Behaviour (with the Universities of Cambridge and Oxford) and in collaboration with colleagues at NHSBT and the University of Queensland. The post holder will conduct a series of projects involving interviewing plasma donors and running online experiments with the UK general population, blood donors and recipients. The findings will feed into the NHSBT recruitment, retention and targeting strategies.  

We are seeking a motivated individual interested in health care and health behaviour and capable of analysing a diverse range of data. The post holder will hold a BSc in a relevant scientific field (e.g. psychology, behavioural economics) or have equivalent qualifications or experience. 

This is a full-time (36.25 hours), fixed term role to 30th September 2024, starting November 2023. Arrangements for job share may be considered.
