Applications are invited for the above post in the Division of Plant and Crop Sciences at Sutton Bonington Campus.   The successful candidate will join the laboratory of Dr John Foulkes whilst working very closely with Prof Erik Murchie and Dr Guillermina Mendiondo.

In this research project we aim to identify optimal growing conditions for cultivation of cotton in vertical farming systems. Optimal light regimes, temperature, watering and nutrient composition will be investigated for improved resource-use efficiency and seed yield together with favourable varietal characteristics. The Plant and Crop Sciences Division is internationally acclaimed as a centre of excellence for fundamental and applied research underpinning our understanding of agriculture, food production and quality, and the natural environment.

The post-holder will work in the newly refurbished plant and crop sciences laboratories that are part of the School of Biosciences and the extensive glasshouse facilities of the Division.

Candidates must have a minimum of an HNC in a relevant subject OR equivalent qualifications plus considerable work experience in relevant role OR substantial work experience in a relevant role.

Proven technical experience in working with plant controlled-environment and/or field experiments, including analysis of plant samples, is an essential requirement for the role.  Knowledge of growth analysis and gas-exchange/hyperspectral analysis of plant samples would be an advantage.
