Salary:  £32,348 to £43,414 per annum (pro-rata if applicable) depending on skills and experience. Salary progression beyond this scale is subject to performance.

The University of Nottingham has a role for a student experience and engagement manager that wants to make a difference, by helping to address educational inequalities at the University. The Access and Participation Plan (APP) programme has a clear purpose: to improve equality of opportunity for underrepresented groups to access, succeed in and progress from higher education. As part of this overall objective, there are several initiatives happening across the University.

You will be part of the Strategy & Planning team that is based in the Libraries Department. We know that having colleagues from a wide range of groups and backgrounds is key to a good, supportive workplace and even better services. We are particularly keen to receive applications from groups who are currently underrepresented in Libraries in the UK, such as people from Black, Asian or Minority Ethnic backgrounds as well as those with a disability.

In this role, you will collaborate with students to review, identify and improve various aspects of the Libraries’ offering in line with our APP objectives. For example, through student engagement and consultation, you will identify how Libraries might make changes to its services, processes or technologies that lead to improved APP outcomes, particularly the ethnicity awarding gap.

You will have good project management skills and be expected to build strong relationships and work with colleagues both within the department and across the wider University. This will require good written and verbal communication skills, and the ability to problem-solve.

You will be based at our Kings Meadow site and your work could involve working across our different campuses. We currently have a hybrid working arrangement where you will be expected to spend a minimum of two days on campus. Working arrangements can be discussed during the interview process.

This position is offered on a fixed term contract until 31 July 2025. Hours are full time (36.25 hours per week); however applications are also welcome from candidates wishing to work part-time (minimum 29 hours per week). Please specify in your application if you wish to work part time and the number of preferred hours. Job share arrangements will also be considered.

We expect interviews to be held on Thursday 19th January.

Don’t meet every single requirement? Studies have shown that women and people from Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic backgrounds are less likely to apply for jobs unless they meet every single requirement. Within Libraries, we are dedicated to building a diverse and inclusive department, so if you’re excited about this role but your experience doesn’t align perfectly with every requirement in the job description, we encourage you to apply anyway. You may be just the right candidate.

Informal enquiries may be addressed to Matthew Sneller at Please note that applications sent directly to this email address will not be accepted.
