Applications are invited to the above role to have specific responsibility for carrying out fundamental and translational research and develop proposals for research projects within the National Biofilm Innovation Centre (NBIC) at Nottingham University.  

In particular, the person appointed will be expected to (i) interact with the researchers from NBIC at Nottingham and the other leading and partner institutions; (ii) interact in a professional manner with industrial partners in a highly multidisciplinary environment; (iii) work to very tight deadlines and manage multiple projects; (iv) Report regularly to industrial partners and members of NBIC both in the form of formal written reports and oral presentation; (v) support NBIC training activities and the supervision of postgraduate researchers and visitors within the centre; (vi) write scientific research papers to high standards and (vii) assist with the preparation of project proposals for industry and grant applications. 

The person appointed will have the opportunity to use their initiative and creativity to identify areas for research, develop research methods and extend their research portfolio.

This position requires extensive experience working with biofilms, preferably polymicrobial as well as in molecular biology including the construction of reporter fusions, mutagenesis and transcriptomic analysis. Extensive experience in confocal microscopy and significant skills in protein expression and purification will also be needed. It would be very advantageous to have experience in the genetic manipulation of Pseudomonas aeruginosa and the use of in vitro virulence factor bioassays in this organism. 

Candidates must hold a PhD in Microbiology or relevant subject area.

This full-time (36.25 hour), fixed-term post is available from 2nd February 2023 to 30th November 2024. Job share arrangements may be considered.
