The University of Nottingham is inviting applications for a full-time Technical position in the Department of Chemical and Environmental Engineering.

The purpose of this role is to provide a high level of specialist technical support to the teaching and research laboratories of the Department.

Applications are invited for this fixed-term post in Chemical and Environmental Engineering (CEE), with responsibility for providing technical support for activities within the CEE teaching and research laboratories. Within this inspiring environment, you will organise and supervise the highly utilised laboratories, with support from other technicians across the Faculty. Responsibilities will include maintenance of laboratories and equipment, management of laboratory health and safety, liaising with colleagues on the design and content of new laboratory experiments, and providing teaching support. The role has significant manual handling involved, including taking delivery of gas cylinders and transportation of chemicals and equipment. 

We have a great team supporting CEE, and the role holder will join our team of highly skilled technical staff to play an integral part in the supervision and maintenance of laboratories within the department, as well as ensuring that core infrastructure is maintained. 

You are positive and proactive in your work, able to work with minimal supervision, able to develop novel solutions to problems, and engage in new opportunities and challenges as required. When in contact with laboratory stakeholders, you are able to lead and communicate your advice and thoughts. 

Applicants will require experience of working in a chemistry/or chemical engineering laboratory environment. Candidates must have the ability to learn new techniques and transfer knowledge of theory and practice to others, capacity to understand and identify the technical/experimental needs of staff and students, ability to work autonomously and good computer skills. Training will be provided where required, a willingness to learn and develop skills and responsibilities will be encouraged and expected. Possession of a health and safety qualification would be an advantage, while strong general technical and problem solving skills are essential. 

This is a full-time (36.25 hours) fixed-term post until 31/03/2025. Arrangements for job share may be considered.
