To achieve the Faculty of Engineering’s vision of being top ranked in all areas of Education and Student Experience as well as Research and Knowledge Exchange, we are seeking applications from high quality people whose backgrounds, experience and identity broadens and enhances the diversity of our existing team. We are looking for an Assistant Professor whose expertise lies in Structural Engineering and welcome applications from well qualified individuals with the ability to teach all aspects of Structural Engineering in our Civil Engineering programmes. Candidates whose area of expertise lies in one of the following areas are particularly welcome: engineering net zero; digital twins; structural advanced materials.
This post is available on a research and teaching basis.
You will be able to carry out the academic duties to the highest standard and to evidence how, through your personal experience and background, you will be able to:
- Plan and deliver high quality taught modules at undergraduate and postgraduate level in Structural Engineering
- Supervise final year UG & PG students
- Conduct your own original research and supervise researchers
- Create a bold strategy for your research and show how it will benefit from, and bring benefit to, interaction with your colleagues
We are looking for an innovative thinker who can evidence:
- Your enthusiasm for interactive teaching
- You are a caring and approachable person who is student centred in your approach and can support students in the modern University environment
- Your potential to be published in international journals of the highest quality
- That you can work well in a team and interact with existing research in the team to create greater insight into the complex challenges that structural engineering faces
- Your ability to contribute positively to the collegiate activities of the Department, such as open days and outreach activities
This is a permanent, full-time post (36.25 hours). Arrangements for job share may be considered.
