Applications are invited from International and Home students for up to 16 fully-funded PhD studentships offered by the Faculty of Engineering (FoE) at the University of Nottingham, starting on 1st October 2023.

The topics for the studentships are open, but your research proposal should relate to the interests of one our world leading and diverse research groups. We welcome ambitious research ideas that can tackle global challenges.

The studentships are fully funded for 3 or 3.5 years (dependant on project) and include a stipend and tuition fees.

The Faculty of Engineering provides a thriving working environment for all PGRs creating a strong sense of community across research disciplines. Community and research culture is important to our PGRs and the FoE support this by working closely with our Postgraduate Research Society (PGES) and our PGR Research Group Reps to enhance the research environment for PGRs. PGRs benefit from training through the Researcher Academy’s Training Programme, those based within the Faculty of Engineering have access to bespoke courses developed for Engineering PGRs. including sessions on paper writing, networking and career development after the PhD. The Faculty has outstanding facilities and works in partnership with leading industrial partners. 

Entry Requirements

Degree – 2:1 or masters in Engineering or another relevant area (science, computer science, mathematics etc.)

International and EU equivalents – we accept a wide range of qualifications. For information on entry requirements from your country, click here

IELTS – 6 (with no less than 5.5 in any element)

Please check your eligibility against the entry requirements prior to proceeding.

If you are interested in applying, please contact potential supervisors to discuss your research proposal.

If the supervisor wishes to support your application post interview, they will apply to the Faculty by the 24th February 2023 for funding, if successful you will be notified by the Faculty of Engineering. Please note that supervisor support does not guarantee funding.
