Salary:  £39,592 to £54,421 per annum (pro-rata if applicable) depending on skills and experience. Salary progression beyond this scale is subject to performance.

The Department of Philosophy at the University of Nottingham is looking to appoint an Assistant Professor (equivalent to a permanent Lecturer). 

The purpose of this role will be to lead and deliver individual and/or collaborative research and teaching in the Departments of Philosophy and History, and to take on appropriate administrative duties.

The Department of Philosophy is looking to appoint someone with demonstrable interdisciplinary/cross-disciplinary research and teaching excellence in one or more of the following areas. We would particularly welcome applicants in: 

  • Philosophy of History (broadly conceived)

We also welcome applicants in the following areas (broadly conceived):

  • Continental Philosophy (inc. Philosophy of History)
  • Anglo-American Philosophy of History
  • German Idealism (e.g., Kant, Hegel)
  • History and Philosophy of Science and Medicine
  • Early modern Philosophy

We want to continue to tackle the issues faced by underrepresented groups in Philosophy – whether in staffing, curriculum, teaching, research, the public face of the disciplines, or in other ways, and so, you will be able to demonstrate an ability to make a positive difference to issues of underrepresentation, through your experience, work, ethos, identity, or in some other way.
