We are seeking a highly motivated Postdoctoral Research Associate/Fellow to undertake research as part of exciting UK-CGIAR (CABI) funded grant titled: “Deciphering the root-soil interface to develop efficient N2 fixing, climate-smart pigeon pea cultivars with improved yields”.

The successful candidate will investigate how root traits, through their interactions with rhizobia and soil properties, contribute to plant resilience under heat stress, enhancing nitrogen fixation and overall plant performance. Collaborating closely with another post-doctoral researcher on the project, the candidate will integrate studies on root-soil-microbe interaction, genetic analysis and omics techniques. This work will leverage expertise from root biologists, soil biophysicists, and nodulation signaling specialists.

This collaborative approach aims to advance the development of climate-smart pigeon pea cultivars with improved yields. The role provides an excellent opportunity to work as part of a dynamic, multidisciplinary team, involving UK institutions (University of Nottingham and University of Warwick) and CGIAR partners (ICRISAT-India, CIMMYT, and their National Agricultural Research Systems partners).

The candidate must have a PhD in Plant biology/Crop Science/Soil Science/molecular ecology or related biological science (or near completion). This is a full-time, 3-year fixed-term post is available from April 2025.

Informal enquiries may be addressed to Rahul Bhosale: rahul.bhosale@nottingham.ac.uk. Please note that applications sent directly to this email address will not be accepted.
