Criminology is one of four academic disciplines within the School of Sociology and Social Policy, the others being sociology, public & social policy, and social work. The disciplines share a core commitment to social justice, and the interplay between disciplines creates a vibrant environment for robust academic debate, research innovation and the delivery of high-quality research-led teaching.

The School, and in particular criminology, is going through a period of rapid growth and we are looking for an enthusiastic senior scholar to join the criminology team. You may already hold a professorial-level appointment or you may be someone who is able to demonstrate their readiness to step-up into this role. Whatever level you are currently at, you will have a proven track record of personal achievement and leadership in research, teaching, and academic administration/leadership.

You will be expected to make a significant contribution to research, teaching and senior leadership within the criminology team and across the School. This will include: involvement in planning and delivering the high-quality education we provide for both UG and PGT students; involvement in high-quality research, including securing external research funding, publishing in esteemed outlets, and contributing to knowledge exchange and research impact activities; involvement in leadership and management, including providing support to early career academics, serving on School and Faculty committees, and leading on initiatives designed to support identified priorities.

We welcome applications from candidates with interests in any area(s) of criminology. At professorial level you will be expected to have a significant impact on the direction, strategy, objectives, and performance of the University by influencing and shaping the available resources as appropriate to meet the current and future needs of the University of Nottingham, the Faculty of Social Sciences, and the School of Sociology & Social Policy.

We actively encourage people from Black, Asian, and minority ethnic backgrounds to apply as the School is determined to provide a diverse and inclusive environment for staff and students which draws on the widest possible range of talents and backgrounds.

At the University of Nottingham, we aim to give you all the support you need to develop and nurture your talent, and to help you to reach your professional and personal career goals.
