Are you looking for a role that will allow you to make a positive difference to education, support and underpin world-leading research and teaching? Then joining the School of Education could be for you.

As Science Technician you will provide specialist technical support for the science content of Initial Teacher Education (ITE) courses in the School of Education.

You will:

  • Plan and oversee the technical running of the two laboratories and prep room.
  • Set up and provide practical support for all ITE courses and for external speakers.
  • Provide specialist advice to staff and ITE students.
  • Oversee all Health and Safety requirements in the laboratories.
  • Purchase relevant equipment and supplies.
  • Plan and oversee any required maintenance.

You will be an experienced technician, with a good understanding of regulations and procedure governing laboratory work. You will have minimum of HNC in relevant subject, or equivalent qualifications plus some work experience in relevant role or previous work experience in a relevant role.

Our success is delivered by our people. We believe that a diverse and supportive environment, bringing different perspectives to our work and allowing people to thrive, is the best platform for outstanding operational support, cutting-edge research and excellent teaching. We are seeking individuals from the widest possible range of talents and backgrounds, and we will appoint not just based on past achievements, but also on your potential for the future. We will support your development and put in place a personal training programme to help you progress in your career in higher education.

This role is available as a permanent contract. Hours are 14.5 per week for 30 weeks per year. The calendar for our Initial Teacher Education science programme does align with mainstream schools’ term dates which allows for some flexibility in working patterns.  Therefore, apart from the first week of the Nottingham/Nottinghamshire October half term break, the role holder would not necessarily be required to work during school holidays and could adjust their working pattern accordingly. The role starts on 3rd February 2025.

The interview will be held on the 8th of January.

Informal enquiries may be addressed to Victoria Mcpherson-Davis, email VICTORIA.MCPHERSON-DAVIS@NOTTINGHAM.AC.UK. Please note that applications sent directly to this email address will not be accepted.
