Applications are invited for the above research assistant positions (x3) to join the Power Electronics, Machines and Drives Research Group at the University of Nottingham.  The PEMC group has undergone a significant period of growth and now has over 150 members, with 18 academics (including 7 full professors) and approximately 120 PhD students and post-doctoral research fellows.  The group has excellent facilities for experimental work including approximately 2500m2 of research space and a construction and testing capability up to 5MW.

The successful candidates will support research in innovative electric propulsion systems for future de-carbonised, green aircraft and will support delivery of one of our new flagship EU-funded projects. In particular, the role holders will work in the areas of design, modelling and simulation, optimisation, development and laboratory testing of future aircraft electric propulsion drive systems.

Candidates should hold a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, Power Electronics or a very closely related topic. Desirably hold or be shortly due to obtain a master’s degree in electrical engineering, Power Electronics or a very closely related topic

  • Good knowledge of WBG power electronic devices
  • Good understanding of control platform DSP or FPGA 
  • Strong practical hardware experience of power electronics development and testing

Ability to work well in a team and to be able to communicate well with others are essential. The successful candidate will be expected to liaise with industrial partners, prepare and present reports and disseminate results of their work through academic publications and presentations.

There are 3 posts available and they are offered on a full time (36.25 hours per week), fixed term contract until 30 June 2026. Job share arrangements may be available.
