We are looking to appoint a Head of School to join our School of Sociology and Social Policy to provide effective and inclusive leadership for the school. You will be accountable to the Faculty Pro-Vice-Chancellor for all aspects of the performance and running of the school. This includes resource and budget management and working with the senior leadership team to develop capacity and talent within our school for the delivery of excellence in education and research.

Working collaboratively with the faculty senior leadership team and colleagues across the school, you will develop and implement the academic strategy in line with the university and faculty strategic plans. Ensuring high standards in research and quality education and student experience.

To be successful in this role, you will demonstrate effective, inclusive leadership and management, both strategically and operationally within the academic unit.  You are an inspirational leader who can drive high-quality direction for our school. This is an exciting role to act as an ambassador for the faculty and university and to show your commitment to enhancing the quality and reputation of our academic services.

You will build working relationships and collaborate effectively in formal and informal settings with a diverse audience. Your analytical, judgment, and problem-solving skills are essential for success, especially in handling pressure and managing competing demands effectively.

With a recognised profile of your academic achievements within research and teaching, you will have good knowledge of the university activities and management structures, and the issues and opportunities facing the sector. We are seeking applications from candidates whose background, experience, and identity broadens and enhances the diversity of our existing leadership team.

The School of Sociology & Social Policy is a vibrant community encompassing Sociology, Social Policy, Criminology, and Social Work.
