N/Lab at the Nottingham University Business School is seeking to appoint a full-time Research Associate/Fellow to support Prof James Goulding.  Further information about Nottingham University Business School is available at: https://www.nottingham.ac.uk/business/

This position is funded by a new ESRC Project grant titled “Data Donation for Climate Action: Linking Psychological Perceptions to Behaviour via Digital Footprints”, which starts on 1st October 2024. A parallel position is being advertised for a Psychology research fellow within the School of Psychology School at the University of Nottingham and successful applicants will work closely with one another.

This project will build on the latest thinking in Data Science and Psychology to develop new methods, tools, and infrastructure that harness personal Digital Footprint data donation to test and enhance theories of environmental behaviour. This role will include the examination of perceptions of the environmental impact of food commodities, matching these perceptions with store card data donated by participants, and via machine learning modelling understanding barriers and ethical issues associated with personal data donation. 

 The successful candidate will:

  • have experience in working with digital footprint data, ability to synergise  relevant publications in the field, develop new analytical techniques, and generate insights from large data sets.
  • be able to perform high quality research in descriptive analytics; predictive ML modelling; and variable importance analysis (e.g. SHAP/MCR);
  • have high analytical ability in data processing and expertise in relevant languages (e.g., SQL, R,, Python).
  • have excellent communication and organisational skills, including prior experience in disseminating research (e.g., through publications and conference presentations).
  • proven ability to work independently and to take initiative whilst working collaboratively as part of an interdisciplinary team.
  • be able to support other researchers within the wider research group. 
  • play an active role in the research community within the N/Lab and Nottingham University Business School.

You will play an important role in a novel and exciting interdisciplinary project, with opportunities to attend conferences and publish high impact papers.
