Senior Sensory Technician (Fixed term)
We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Sensory Technician to undertake research as part of an Innovate UK (IUK) and Protein Industries Canada grant focused on improving the nutritional quality and sensory properties of plant-based meat analogues. The successful applicant will use sensory and consumer science methods to measure consumer responses to a range of prototypes and understand how different information on packaging impacst on consumer responses. The aim is to further develop product optimisation strategies and deliver an effective consumer communication on packaging. The project comprises a multidisciplinary team, including a company developing the products, and three teams in the University – The Food Innovation Centre (product development), the Nutritional Composition and Digestibility Laboratory and the Sensory Science Centre. The role holder will be expected to have some knowledge and understanding of sensory and consumer test methodologies and excellent organisational skills to deliver them are essential. The role holder will primarily work within the Sensory Science Centre located at Sutton Bonington Campus and will assist other technical staff with basic housekeeping for the Sensory Science Centre.
Applications much have:
- Minimum of HNC in relevant subject, or equivalent qualifications plus considerable work experience in relevant role or Substantial work experience in relevant role
- Basic sensory science knowledge
- An understand of health and safety regulations
- Excellent organisation and planning skills
- Excellent oral and written communication skills,
- Ability to work accurately in order to maintain high standards
This is a fixed-term post, available from 1st March 2025 and funded until 28th February 2026.
Hours of work are full-time (36.25 hours per week). Arrangements for job share may be considered.
