Research Associate/Fellow (Fixed term)
We are inviting applications for a Research Associate/Fellow position to join an exciting new research programme (iBreed) funded by The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation to develop a novel in vitro gametogenesis platform.
The iBreed programme is a collaborative project between research teams led by Prof. Ramiro Alberio at the University of Nottingham and Dr. Tom Burdon and Prof. Bruce Whitelaw at University of Edinburgh (Roslin Institute). The teams’ expertise in genetic engineering, stem cell and developmental biology will be applied to characterising bovine gametogenesis in vivo, and for directing differentiation in vitro using stem cells. The project will focus on using state-of-the art stem cell and organ culture technologies available in the collaborating laboratories, to generate bovine in vitro gametes.
Successful applicants will have a strong scientific background in areas such as developmental/stem cell biology, organ culture, and/or gene editing/manipulation and will be expected to work collaboratively within and between the two teams. Applicants must be highly motivated and self-driven, and able to work independently and collaboratively. Applicants will have a PhD in cell/developmental biology or related area of biological science (PhD students about to submit their thesis in a relevant area of stem cell biology will be considered). A track record of publishing research is also desirable. Experience in bioinformatics and cellular differentiation are relevant for the project.
The post is available immediately and will be offered on a fixed-term contract for 3 years. This is a full-time (36.25 hours) post. Job share arrangements may be considered.
Requests for secondment from internal candidates may be considered on the basis that prior agreement has been sought from both your current line manager and the manager of your substantive post, if you are already undertaking a secondment role.
