Research Associate/Fellow (Fixed term)
Applications are invited for a Research Associate/Fellow in Synthetic Organic Chemistry to work as part of an interdisciplinary research team at the University of Nottingham. The team consists of the principal investigator, Dr Miriam O’Duill (School of Chemistry), as well as co-investigators, Dr Peter Harvey (School of Chemistry and Sir Peter Mansfield Imaging Centre, School of Medicine), Prof. Dorothee Auer (Sir Peter Mansfield Imaging Centre, School of Medicine) and Prof. Richard Bowtell (Sir Peter Mansfield Imaging Centre, School of Physics and Astronomy). The post is funded by the MRC/BBSRC/BRC Interdisciplinary Pipeline and will investigate a robust, scalable platform for the deuteration of bespoke medical imaging probes for clinical applications.
The PDRA will be based within Dr O’Duill’s lab, but also embedded within the Harvey group for access to expertise in developing imaging agents. Throughout the project, the PDRA and supervisory team will regularly liaise with the imaging team (Profs Auer and Bowtell) to ensure approaches are aligned with clinical requirements. Monthly meetings will allow the PDRA to become more acquainted with imaging applications and develop further translational skillsets, supported by the NIHR Nottingham BRC training programme for early career translational researchers.
Successful candidates must have a PhD (or close to being close to completion) in synthetic organic chemistry or a related area. In addition, candidates should have hands-on experience in synthetic organic chemistry and methodology development. Experience with reaction scale-up and the use of high-pressure reactors is advantageous, but not essential. Excellent oral and written communication skills, teamworking skills, the ability to manage the day-to-day running of a research project and a track record of high-quality publications are expected. If English is not the candidate’s first language, they must provide evidence that they meet the University’s minimum English Language requirements (IELTS 6.0 with at least 5.5 in each element).
The post is available on a fixed-term basis from 1st September 2024 until 2nd April 2025. Hours of work are full time (36.25 hours).
