Research Associate/Fellow (Fixed-Term)
Applications are invited for a highly motivated and talented Research Associate/Fellow to join the University of Nottingham’s Additive Biofabrication Laboratory, a dynamic, multidisciplinary hub dedicated to additive manufacturing for healthcare applications.
This project is supported by a Medical Research Council (MRC) Gap Fund. It continues the development of a novel 3D-printed bone graft substitute that influences the behaviour of mammalian cells through their ability to respond to the shape of their environment. These new materials provide instructions to the cells, accelerating new, stable bone formation. We have already discovered that a particular shape promotes cell and vascular infiltration both in vitro and in vivo. Here, we will use the latest 3D printing technologies to take this discovery from the laboratory and into a bone graft product, testing its ability to support bone formation both in the laboratory and in bone defects.
We are particularly seeking applicants with expertise in high-resolution additive manufacturing, specifically projection micro-stereolithography techniques, and in vitro bone cell culture. With an interest in mechanobiology, you will work at the interface of research and industry to pursue clinical translation of this new material.
Candidates should hold (or be near completion of) a PhD in Biomaterial Science and Tissue Engineering, or a closely related field. Experience in one or more of the following is essential:
- Operation of projection microstereolithography additive manufacturing equipment
- In vitro bone cell culture, including with mammalian, human cells, and associated assays (e.g. matrix deposition)
- In vivo work, whether from a research or clinical background
- MicroCT scanning and Histology
- Evidence of high-quality research outputs (appropriate to career stage)
This full-time (36.25 hours/week), fixed-term post is offered until 31/08/2027.
For informal inquiries, please contact Dr Robert Owen (robert.owen@nottingham.ac.uk). Please note that applications sent to this e-mail will not be considered.
