We are looking for a researcher, whose expertise lies in Algebraic Geometry, to work with Dr Hamid Abban on a Royal Society funded project entitled “K-moduli of Fano hypersurfaces”.  The central aim of the project is to study K-stability aspects of Fano hypersurfaces and examine their moduli properties. However, research in other related directions such as K-stability or K-moduli of other Fano varieties, K-stability of polarised varieties, etc. is likely to be investigated.

You will be able to carry out duties to the highest standard and to evidence how through your experience you will:

  • Undertake original research of international excellence.
  • Develop research objectives and proposals for own and/or collaborative research area.
  • Prepare papers for publication in leading journals and/or contribute to the dissemination at national/international conferences, workshops and meetings resulting in successful research outputs.
  • Identify opportunities and assist in writing bids for research grant applications. Prepare proposals and applications to both external and/or internal bodies for funding, contractual or accreditation purposes.

We are looking for a confident, organised researcher who can evidence:

  • A PhD, or equivalent in mathematics OR near to completion of a PhD
  • Expert knowledge of algebraic geometry.
  • Proven ability to produce research of high quality in algebraic geometry or closely related discipline.
  • Some practical experience of applying geometric approaches and techniques to solve problems.
  • Networking, actively engaging with and valuing other research areas.
  • Published papers/preprints in relevant academic journals.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, including the ability to communicate with clarity on complex information.
  • Excellent organisational skills
  • Ability to build relationships and collaborate with others, both internally and externally.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary and multicultural team.

This post is full time, available from 01 April 2026 and will be offered on a fixed-term contract until 30/03/2027.
