The University is seeking an experienced Senior Information Compliance Officer to join our Information Security and Compliance Team within the Governance and Assurance department. This key role will help strengthen our data protection and information security framework as we continue to enhance our approach to privacy management, information governance, and regulatory compliance.

Reporting to the Associate Director of Information Compliance and Data Protection Officer, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the University maintains the highest standards of data protection while enabling innovation and operational excellence. 

As a Senior Information Compliance Officer you will: 

  • Lead on maintaining and developing the Information Asset Register and Register of Processing Activities (ROPA), ensuring accuracy and transparency. 
  • Conduct Privacy Impact Assessments to support the use of new technology and research projects.
  • Provide expert guidance on data protection matters to staff at all levels, promoting a culture of privacy by design.
  • Review and update Privacy Notices and support privacy-enhancing technology initiatives.
  • Support breach investigation processes and documentation, liaising directly with the Information Commissioner’s Office when required.
  • Co-ordinate with Digital Technology Services on IT Security privacy-related controls and requirements.
  • Deliver targeted privacy awareness sessions in-person and virtually.
  • Support the DPO in delivering strategic advice and guidance around information compliance matters. 

The successful candidate will possess significant experience in data protection gained through large or complex organisations, along with demonstrable knowledge of FOIA. You will have excellent interpersonal and communication skills with a proven ability to influence senior management on data protection issues and risks. Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office suite and excellent data management skills are essential. 

This is a full-time (36.25 hours per week) fixed-term post for 3 years; however, job share arrangements may be considered. Requests for secondment from internal candidates may be considered on the basis that prior agreement has been sought from both your current line manager and the manager of your substantive post, if you are already undertaking a secondment role.
