An exciting opportunity has arisen within the School of Life Sciences to join our team as a Sport and Exercise Science Teaching Technician. Applications are invited to the above role to support the organisation, preparation and delivery of undergraduate laboratory practical classes, assistance with final-year research projects and provide a range of technical skills in the disciplines of Exercise Physiology, Metabolism and Nutrition for the BSc Sport & Exercise Science programme. Based between the David Ross Sports Village (University Park Campus) and the Medical School (Queen’s Medical Centre), the person appointed will provide technical and administrative support, which will enable academic staff and students to participate in laboratory practical classes and undertake research projects in a safe and effective manner, following Good Clinical Practice (GCP) and health and safety guidelines. Appropriate continued professional development and training will be available, some of which will be mandatory and must be successfully completed.

We are seeking candidates with previous experience working in a teaching laboratory environment, along with relevant techniques and equipment in human metabolism, physiology or nutrition. Candidates must demonstrate strong customer relation skills, the ability to work accurately to maintain high standards and the ability to work effectively under pressure.

Candidates with a proven ability to learn new techniques and procedures quickly, as well as experience of either assisting human volunteer teaching activities or human volunteer research studies, would be desirable.

Please note that this role requires the ability to lift and move objects, as it involves storing and moving consumables and equipment.

Candidates must hold a minimum of HNC in relevant subject or equivalent qualifications plus work experience in human physiology, metabolism or nutrition. A first degree in Sport and Exercise Science, Physiology, Biomedical Science or similar discipline, is desirable.

This is a permanent, full-time role (36.25 hours per week).
