We are looking for a research assistant to support the Academic Trauma & Orthopaedics research team in the development of a new patient reported outcomes measure for recovery following injury or illness. This will include participating in a systematic review, Personal and Public Involvement and Engagement (PPI/E) work and other grant development activities. You will be expected to carry out a number of research techniques including literature searches, abstract and full-text screening, data extraction, analysis and co-writing the manuscript. 

You should have a degree in medicine, psychology, health sciences or other relevant subject area. You should have experience in conducting literature reviews and carrying out quantitative and/or qualitative research methodologies. Evidence in use of research methodologies and techniques in previous research projects i.e., as part of a dissertation project or in previous RA role would be desirable. Applications from candidates seeking to gain research experience to support future PhD aspirations or to further their academic career are particularly welcome.  

You must have excellent oral and written communication skills, including the ability to communicate complex information clearly and effectively to non-specialists. They should be able to demonstrate strong initiative, problem-solving abilities and the capacity to plan and prioritise their daily activities in alignment with the project’s agreed-upon tasks. 

This research is being conducted as part of a wider initiative led by the Musculoskeletal, Surgery, Inflammation and Recovery theme of the Nottingham Biomedical Research Centre (MSK BRC). The Nottingham BRC is a partnership between the University of Nottingham and Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust. There are six themes, including the MSK BRC, that work towards improving outcomes for those with some of the most common illnesses. The Nottingham BRC research is led by internationally renowned academics, scientists and clinicians with unrivalled expertise in innovation, scientific discovery and research that is changing clinical practice. The Nottingham BRC Core Outcomes initiative aims to develop a new comprehensive participation-based measure using computer adaptive testing (CAT) to reliably measure patient outcomes following injury and illness. The role holder will therefore work very closely with and be supported by the Nottingham BRC team.
