Are you completing / have completed a PhD in electrical machines or electromagnetics and looking for an ambitious next step in your research career?
We are looking for a talented and highly motivated Research Associate/Fellow in Electrical Machines to join the University of Nottingham's Power Electronics, Machines and Control (PEMC) group — one of the UK's largest and most ambitious research clusters in electrical machines, power electronics and drives.
You will join our Electrical Machines team, working on a new generation of major research programmes addressing some of the most technically challenging problems in advanced electrical machine design.
Our work ranges from highly integrated electrical machines for future hybrid-electric aerospace propulsion through to emerging technologies involving advanced conductors, innovative machine concepts and novel 3D machine topologies. These programmes provide significant opportunities for innovation in electromagnetics, machine topology, analytical modelling and multidisciplinary design.
We are particularly interested in candidates with strong foundations in:
- Electrical machine design and electromagnetic fundamentals;
- Analytical electromagnetic modelling and performance prediction;
- Finite-element electromagnetic analysis; and
- Machine topology development, design methods and optimisation.
Your experience does not need to be in a particular machine topology or type. You may have worked on permanent-magnet, induction, reluctance, wound-field or other machine technologies. What matters most is the depth of your technical understanding, how you approach difficult engineering problems and your ability to develop new ideas.
You will have, or be close to completing, a PhD in electrical machines, electromagnetics, electrical engineering or a closely related discipline. We are particularly looking for someone who is technically strong, curious, self-motivated and keen to develop greater technical independence.
