Salary:  £67,545 to £93,498 per annum, depending on skills and experience. Salary progression beyond this scale is subject to performance.

The University of Nottingham, School of Law is seeking to appoint the new JC Smith Professor in Law.

The School of Law is seeking an exceptional legal scholar in Criminal Law and Criminal Justice to fill the JC Smith Chair in Law. Continuing the legacy of JC Smith, you will have a portfolio of high-quality publications in Criminal Law and Criminal Justice, broadly conceived, and an excellent track record in attracting significant research funding. As the JC Smith Professor, you will contribute to developing and deepening the School’s diverse and vibrant research base through individual and collaborative research, innovative research methods and engagement with external stakeholders and funding bodies. The JC Smith Professor plays a prominent public-facing role including hosting the JC Smith Trust Fund Senior Visiting Fellow and the JC Smith Annual Lecture and, more broadly, the role holder will be expected to engage in knowledge exchange and impact work in the areas of Criminal Law and Criminal Justice, and to lead funded projects in collaboration with Nottingham’s interdisciplinary Criminal Justice Research Centre.  

The JC Smith Professor of Law takes primary responsibility for convening and teaching the core undergraduate module in Criminal Law, and for delivering criminal law teaching, supervision, research and scholarship on the School of Law’s sector-leading taught postgraduate and PhD programmes, including the LLM in Criminal Justice.

This role is available on a permanent basis. Hours of work are full time (36.25 hours)
