The Senior Technician (Stores) role is a key position within the School of Physics and Astronomy at the University of Nottingham and represents an exciting opportunity to help support our experimental research and teaching activities.
The purpose of the role will be to manage our internal engineering/general stores facility, providing technical support and advice to staff, students and researchers.
The School has a broad research portfolio encompassing Magnetic Resonance Imaging, Condensed Matter Physics, Cold Atomic Physics, Particle Theory and Astronomy. It is also one of the largest departments in the UK with over 600 undergraduate students. The complex and challenging research within the School relies on novel and innovative technical solutions delivered by highly skilled and experienced staff with specialist relevant training.
The role holder will be responsible for the running and upkeep of the Physics stores facility, including purchasing, goods receiving/dispatch, issuing of goods, stock control and organisation. The impending transition of University financial systems to DigitalCore in 2024 represents an exciting challenge to the role holder to optimise this crucial facility within the School. Experience in a similar role is essential, as are strong customer relations skills and the ability to work effectively under pressure.
As part of our commitment to improving equality, diversity and inclusion within the school, shortlisted candidates will be given the opportunity to talk to a member of staff representing women, BAME, LGBTQIA+ or disabilities communities. This will be separate to the assessment process and will play no role in the decision to appoint.
This role is available on a permanent basis. Hours of work are full time (36.25 hours). Job share arrangements may be considered.
Informal enquiries may be addressed to Dr Nick Botterill, ezznwb@exmail.nottingham.ac.uk. Please note that applications sent directly to this email address will not be accepted.
