Resource, Environmental and Financial Implications of Low Carbon Fuels Production from Ocean Renewable Energy

Applications are invited for a full-time Research Associate position in the evaluation of fuels produced from ocean renewable energy sources. 

For the successful candidate, this position will provide an exciting opportunity to expand your critical understanding of the opportunities and risks presented by low carbon energy technologies for decarbonising heat, transport, and other energy services. You will develop novel methodologies to explore the resource, financial, and life cycle environmental implications of future fuels production. In this position, you will benefit from working with world-leading academic colleagues in offshore renewable energy; hydrogen generation, storage, and transport; fuel synthesis, including ammonia and carboniferous fuels; and system optimisation; as well as engagement with key UK and international industry partners. 

You will hold, or be about to obtain, a PhD in a relevant subject area, with a background in a relevant engineering discipline. You will have experience developing relevant assessment tools (life cycle assessment; material flow analysis; techno-economic analysis) and their application to energy technologies. Essential skills that you possess include: effective collaborative working in a multi-disciplinary environment; creative thinking and problem solving; and the ability to clearly communicate complex concepts to diverse audiences. 

This full-time (36.25 hours) position is offered on a fixed term contract for 3 years and is available to start from 1st February 2023. Job share arrangements may be considered.
