            <p id="isPasted">Applications are invited for a Research Associate/Fellow position to work on a project investigating the molecular and cellular mechanisms of meiosis in the malaria parasite Plasmodium. The project is funded through a BBSRC UKRI Frontier Science award entitled &ldquo;Meiosis in Plasmodium: how does it work?&rdquo;. This is a fixed-term, full-time (36.25 hours per week) appointment until 14th April 2027, with the possibility of a 5.5 month extension, subject to funding.</p><p>The post holder will be based in the School of Life Sciences at the University of Nottingham (Medical School, Queen&rsquo;s Medical Centre, UK) and will work under the supervision of Dr David Guttery and Prof. Rita Tewari.</p><p>This project aims to address a fundamental gap in our understanding of how meiosis operates in Plasmodium, a highly divergent eukaryote responsible for malaria transmission. The research will focus on parasite development within the mosquito vector, using advanced genetic and cell biological approaches to determine how conserved meiotic regulators control parasite differentiation and transmission. The work will involve conditional gene modulation strategies (including CRISPR-Cas9, DiCre, AID and promoter swap systems) combined with state-of-the-art imaging approaches such as confocal microscopy, expansion microscopy and immunofluorescence to generate mechanistic insight into parasite biology.</p><p>We are seeking a self-motivated and enthusiastic candidate with a strong interest in parasite biology and cell biology. Applicants must hold a PhD (or be close to completion) in a relevant discipline and have experience in molecular and/or cell biology techniques. Strong analytical, organisational and communication skills are essential. Experience in molecular cloning, genetic manipulation, and advanced imaging approaches (e.g. confocal microscopy) is highly desirable. Experience with expansion microscopy, SIM or related advanced imaging techniques would be advantageous.</p><p>The successful candidate will join a collaborative and supportive research environment, contribute to training undergraduate and postgraduate researchers, and disseminate findings through high-quality publications and presentations.</p><p>Further information is available in the role profile.             <p id="isPasted">We are looking for a motivated, enthusiastic and collaborative researcher to join the School of Life Sciences and contribute to an exciting ERC (UKRI Frontier Science project) exploring the unique and rapid cell division events that occur during Plasmodium male gamete formation and transmission stages within mosquitoes. You will join a friendly and highly skilled research community based at the Queen&rsquo;s Medical Centre, working closely with Prof. Rita Tewari and colleagues in a supportive and dynamic environment.</p><p>This role offers the opportunity to work at the forefront of parasite cell biology, using cutting‑edge genetic and imaging approaches to understand the regulation of cell division during malaria transmission. You will investigate divergent protein kinases involved in cell cycle and novel proteins using conditional gene modulation systems (CRISPR‑Cas9, AID, DiCre) and advanced cell biology techniques to generate and analyse functional data.</p><p id="isPasted">You will plan and conduct your own research, contribute to collaborative projects, and play an active role in shaping research objectives. You will also build internal and external connections, working closely with senior technical staff to coordinate parasite material and data management.</p><p>Training and supporting undergraduate and postgraduate researchers will form part of your contribution to the wider laboratory community, alongside maintaining good laboratory practice and accurate record keeping.           <title><![CDATA[Research Associate/Fellow - Immune cell response to surfaces (Fixed Term) (MED1192626)]]></title>

            <p id="isPasted">Research Assistant position for EPSRC project Designing bio-instructive materials for translation ready medical devices&nbsp;</p><p>We are seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral researcher to join an EPSRC funded project that will design bio-instructive materials for translation ready medical devices.</p><p>A novel class of polymers developed in our labs show great promise in reducing infections and controlling host response in the clinic. We recently added the use of micro topography to provide a synergistic stimulus to tackle infections and found an improvement in the host immune response. This control of host response is applicable to achieving better implant integration and wound healing. These findings are being developed in this project to improve outcomes for medical devices in the clinic.</p><p>The successful candidate will be responsible for biological studies within the project including detailed immunological characterisation of sterile and infected single and co-cultures of immune and stromal cells, and correlative data analysis including surface characterisation of biomaterials.</p><p>Candidates must have a PhD submitted (or close to submission) or awarded in the area of immunology/biology or chemical sciences. &nbsp;Experience with cellular and molecular immunology, fibroblasts biology, wound healing assays and surface chemical analysis data acquisition and interpretation are highly desirable.</p><p>This is a collaborative project between the School of Pharmacy, The School of Computer Science, Physics and Astronomy, the School of Life Sciences and the Faculty of Engineering. This is a full-time post offered on a fixed-term contract until 30<sup>th</sup> October 2027 and is available immediately.
