We seek an accomplished public health researcher to serve in a distinctive dual role as a research-focused faculty member and a methodological leader within our Evidence-Based Medicine (EBM) laboratory. This individual will drive the development of novel statistical methodologies for evidence synthesis and translation while providing scientific oversight and management for core methodological functions.

A central and strategic component of this leadership role is to serve as the primary biostatistical and methodological authority for the UNNC GRADE Centre. The successful candidate will ensure the statistical rigour, innovation, and integrity of all evidence assessments conducted by the centre, directly impacting the development of trusted clinical guidelines and health policies.

As this is a senior leadership position, candidates are expected to demonstrate significant relevant leadership experience. As the role also requires regular communication with key stakeholders in China, fluency in both English and Chinese is essential.

The UNNC GRADE Centre, which is part of the Cochrane China Network, is a dedicated unit focused on the rigorous evaluation of scientific evidence to inform clinical practice and policy. It specialises in applying the GRADE (Grading of Recommendations, Assessment, Development, and Evaluations) framework to assess the certainty of evidence and strength of recommendations in healthcare. The Centre works closely with national and international bodies to produce transparent, systematic, and trustworthy guidelines.

The successful candidate will be offered a fixed term contract until 31 July 2030. Key Responsibilities

Methodological Leadership & GRADE Centre Oversight

• Serve as the chief biostatistical and methodological authority for the UNNC GRADE Centre.
• Lead and supervise evidence assessments, ensuring statistical rigour, innovation, and integrity across all GRADE-based evaluations.
• Provide expert guidance on complex evidence synthesis, meta-analysis, network meta-analysis, and the application of the GRADE framework to guideline development groups.
• Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders (including Cochrane entities and policy bodies) to advance the quality and usability of evidence-informed recommendations.

Research & Innovation

• Develop and apply novel statistical methodologies for evidence synthesis, evidence translation, and certainty-of-evidence rating.
• Lead a programme of independent and collaborative research that addresses methodological challenges in public health and clinical guideline development.
• Publish high-impact research in leading epidemiology, biostatistics, and evidence-based medicine journals.

Faculty & Laboratory Duties

• Contribute to the academic and research culture of the Evidence Based Medicine Lab, including mentoring junior researchers, postdoctoral fellows, and PhD students.
• Seek and secure external research funding from national and international sources.
• Engage in appropriate teaching and supervision of graduate-level courses in evidence synthesis, biostatistics, or research methods (as aligned with faculty expectations).

About You

• Doctoral degree (PhD, DrPH, or equivalent) in Biostatistics, Epidemiology, Public Health, or a closely related discipline.
• Demonstrated expertise in evidence synthesis methods, including meta-analysis, network meta-analysis, and handling of complex or real-world data.
• In-depth knowledge and practical experience with the GRADE framework for assessing certainty of evidence and strength of recommendations.
• Proven track record of peer-reviewed publications in statistical methodology, evidence synthesis, or clinical epidemiology.
• Experience providing methodological leadership or consultation for guideline development, health technology assessment, or policy-oriented evidence reviews.
• Strong collaborative and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively across disciplinary and cultural boundaries.
• Experience working within a Cochrane centre, GRADE working group, or similar evidence synthesis organisation.
• Record of successful research grant applications as principal investigator or co-investigator.
• Prior experience in a dual academic/leadership role within a research centre.

About Postdoctoral research station in Business Administration. Postdoctoral research station in Business Administration was approved to establish in Nov 2023. Dr. Huiming Song joined UNNC to work in accounting and Finance department in March 2016. Before joining UNNC, she have accumulated more than 14 years’ work experience in accounting and finance sector. This includes 7 years in Ireland, where Dr Song had worked in the accounting firm (Moore Stephens international, Dublin office), as a supervisor in their corporate finance department. After that, Dr Song joined bank of New York Mellon, Dublin office, working as a manager in the financial reporting department of Mutual fund. In year 2009, she returned to China and started my first CFO role in a Sino-USA joint venture based in Ningbo, after that she joined Alibaba global headquarter in Hangzhou, as a director in charge of the overseas and domestic M&As and post M&A integration and Financial reporting. This experience promoted her to start financial advisory career, she set up an international business department in BDO, specialize in assisting Chinese enterprises to do cross-border M&As and listing in overseas stock exchange. About the Project. This longitudinal project investigates the implementation of AI-empowered chronic disease management systems in hospitals. It examines human-AI collaboration and the "boundaries of work" between humans and algorithms across four key stakeholder groups: frontline healthcare workers, patients and family members, hospital administrators, and system developers. The project explores how clinical tasks are negotiated and delegated, addressing critical issues such as algorithmic trust, alert fatigue, professional autonomy, privacy concerns, and organizational integration. Adopting a mixed-methods approach with a strong emphasis on qualitative inquiry, the project combines in-depth interviews, ethnographic observation, and focus groups with longitudinal surveys and system log analysis. Notably, this project includes teaching case writing as a core component, with teaching cases to be developed and submitted to leading repositories, alongside journal publications in leading information systems or healthcare outlets.

Your key responsibilities include:

• To take the lead on, plan, develop, and conduct individual and/or collaborative research objectives, projects, and proposals either as an individual or as part of a broader programme. 
• To act as the principal investigator on major research projects within the relevant field; investigate and devise new research methods, generate new research approaches, and contribute generally to the development of thought and practice in relevant fields.
• To establish a national reputation and regularly disseminate and explain research findings through leading peer-reviewed international publications (on a sustained basis), conferences, and other appropriate media.
• To deliver teaching across a range of modules or within a subject area, providing curriculum leadership within own area of expertise.
• Be responsible for the design of course modules and/or programmes of study in specialist areas and for their quality. Where appropriate identify the need for developing the content or structure of existing modules and make proposals on how this should be achieved.
• To supervise and examine Undergraduate, Postgraduate, and PhD students.

About You

NUBS China seeks to appoint proactive, mature academics who are self-driven and results-oriented, resilient, and creative, with internationally recognised intellectual contributions in the relevant subject area.

• A PhD degree in Finance or a relevant subject area;
• Proven ability to plan and lead the delivery of research and teaching programmes;
• A track record of publishing in top-tier international journals appropriate to the level of the appointment;
• Experience in teaching, supervision, and/or development of executive education;
• Ability and passion to work in the multicultural environment of UNNC and to explore research opportunities in China; and
• Excellent oral and written communication skills in English.

We also look for academic leaders who have strong evidence of attracting research funding and/or leading research projects, proven ability to mentor junior researchers, and strong research networking to attract people and research funding. Editorial experience at leading international journals is advantageous.
