Access and participation plans set out how higher education providers will improve equality of opportunity for underrepresented groups to access, succeed in and progress from higher education. The focus of our access and participation plan is on improving access and outcomes for specific groups of students. As the Access and Participation Plan Programme Manager, you will provide strategic oversight, coordination and assurance for the University’s Access and Participation Plan (APP).  

Working closely with the Director of Education and Student Experience Standards, senior leaders, APP intervention leads and professional services colleagues, you will act as the institutional expert responsible for coordinating delivery, ensuring regulatory compliance, and driving progress against APP objectives. 

The role provides strategic oversight, governance and assurance, enabling senior leaders to make informed decisions. The post holder will build engagement across the University, work closely with intervention leads and stakeholders to deliver the APP, and ensure that the plan remains aligned with sector expectations, regulatory changes and institutional priorities. Experience of access, participation, equality or regulatory compliance work is highly relevant, though we also welcome transferable experience from related strategic or programme roles.

Reporting to the President and Vice-Chancellor, this position unites two critical external portfolios for the first time. This high-profile role will oversee the university’s ambitions in relation to our global engagement, regional impact and civic mission.

You will provide inspirational leadership to strengthen our role as an anchor institution within our region. You will deepen partnerships with regional, cultural, health, business and community stakeholders, and advance our global reputation, partnerships and international footprint. You will own both the university's global and regional strategies, acting as a senior ambassador with government, cultural and industry bodies and international agencies. You will ensure the university's three campuses operate with additive and synergistic value as a single global institution. 

With effective interpersonal and ambassadorial skills, you will develop relationships at ministerial, governmental, diplomatic and sector leadership levels. You will have a track record of senior leadership in roles requiring significant external representation, relationship-building and institutional diplomacy, whether in higher education, government, the diplomatic service or other complex organisations.  

You will also possess a proven ability to identify, secure and grow strategic partnerships that enhance reputation, research collaboration and commercial value. You will lead with cultural intelligence and an inclusive approach, and communicate complex ideas with clarity and impact across a wide range of senior stakeholders.
