Nottingham Research and Anne McLaren Fellowships (Faculty of Engineering)


Location:  University Park
Salary:  £42,155 to £53,353 per annum (pro-rata if applicable) depending on skills and experience. Salary progression beyond this scale is subject to performance.

Applications are invited for Nottingham Research and Anne McLaren Fellowships in the Faculty of Engineering.  Our fellowships provide 3 years of independent research funding, and are linked to a permanent academic position.

The Faculty of Engineering invites applications from all areas of engineering research.  For this year’s call we are prioritising applications in the areas of:

  • Electrical Machines for Sustainable Transportation
  • 3D Printing of advanced biologics-based healthcare devices

We have further identified the following strategic areas where applications are particularly encouraged:

  • Sustainable, low carbon and zero carbon process engineering
  • Low carbon construction and civil engineering
  • Climate resilience in the built environment
  • Recycling, re-use and circular economy
  • Future and renewable power systems
  • Net zero transport and transportation electrification
  • Digital manufacturing
  • Artificial Intelligence and/or Machine Learning in Engineering
  • Smart buildings and structures

We encourage applications from excellent early career researchers to all of our research groups. We strongly suggest you familiarise yourself with our structure, teaching and research. Applicants are advised to think in detail about how your research proposal and future work fits within our Faculty and identify the best research group for your research.

  • You MUST contact the Faculty (Head of Research Group) to discuss your research proposal before you submit your application.
  • Complete the short form via the ‘apply online’ link below
  • Upload your CV and Research Proposal via the ‘additional information’ section on this form.

CV guidance: include employment history, any gaps in employment history, research funding and awards, list of publications.  Please do not include publication metrics/impact factors as we are committed to the use of responsible metrics and our assessment of proposals ensures that the scientific/research content of a paper is much more important than the publication metrics or identity of the journal in which it was published.

Research proposal guidance: no more than 3 pages and to include:

  • The title of your proposed research
  • The nature of your proposed research and its aims
  • How your research and experience fits within the Faculty of Engineering and strategic priority areas and/or best fit research group identified
  • Planned outputs from the project and the likely impact of your research
  • Long term career aspirations
  • Why you believe your career will benefit from the award of a Nottingham Research or Anne McLaren Fellowship.
