University of Nottingham Ningbo China (UNNC) was the first Sino-foreign university to open its doors in China in 2004, and the University has made remarkable achievements in teaching, research and talent development across its three faculties - Business, Science & Engineering and Humanities & Social Sciences.  UNNC has more than 8,000 students and 850 staff members from 70 countries and regions worldwide, and the number is still growing.


At the turn of the next fifteen years, UNNC is looking to create greater impact through its teaching and research and evolve the institution towards a “research informed teaching” university in the next decade. Combined with the demand for science and technology innovation and high-end talents in Ningbo, University of Nottingham and the Ningbo Municipal Government have agreed to jointly establish an innovation platform – the Beacons of Excellence Innovation Institute in Ningbo. 


Philanthropy will play a fundamental role in realising UNNC’s ambitions.  Reporting to the Provost, the Director of Development will define and determine the future shape of the advancement activities delivered through the current UNNC Education Foundation, donor relations, and alumni relations functions. The successful candidate will transform the University’s fundraising programme in China, and develop and execute a comprehensive engagement plan that will include cultivation, solicitation and volunteer management.  The post holder will develop and implement fundraising strategies with senior leadership and the advisory board to secure significant philanthropic support for University priorities, and align its direction with the central advancement office in Nottingham, UK.


Key to your success in this role is your strong track record in securing significant major gifts. As a strategic and visionary leader, you will possess extensive experience in advancement leadership role, ideally gained within the higher education sector. As a leader, you will demonstrate initiative, enjoy achieving results, and have significant experience in preparing fundraising proposals, budgets and donor communications. Fundamental to success in the role will be the ability to engage and influence a variety of stakeholders, and demonstration of a donor-centric approach to fundraising and a deep commitment to embed a culture of philanthropy across University.


Terms and Remuneration 

The initial appointment will be up to 5 years and can be extended based on mutual agreement. The successful candidate will be offered an attractive remuneration package.
