            <p id="isPasted">Applications are invited for a Research Associate/Fellow to work on a Welcome funded project using multiple molecular genetics techniques including high throughput CRISPRi screens, lung cell and tissue models and spatial transcriptomics in the laboratory of Professors Ian Sayers and Ian Hall (Biodiscovery Institute, University of Nottingham, UK).</p><p>In this highly collaborative project involving the Universities of Nottingham, Leicester and Cambridge we aim to accelerate the discovery of genetic risk factors for lung function impairment with a particular focus on Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) and define the mechanisms and biological pathways underpinning the observed associations. In Nottingham, we will use human primary airway cells combined with CRISPRi to identify functional causal genetic variants, genes and pathways. These mechanisms will be explored further using more complex cell and tissue models combined with spatial transcriptomics of the lung to provide novel understanding. This programme of research will improve the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of respiratory disease through mechanistic discoveries that identify new drug targets and biomarkers, and that highlight drug re-purposing opportunities. This position will be especially suited to candidates with interest in functional genomics, bioinformatics, lung cell biology and respiratory medicine. The successful candidate will also work in close collaboration with researchers in Leicester and Cambridge and additional collaborators. This post offers a unique opportunity to work in fast developing field of molecular genetics and to develop skills in state-of-the-art technologies.</p><p>Applicants must be highly motivated and self-driven, with a PhD in respiratory molecular genetics or related area of biological science or near to completion of a PhD. The successful candidate will ideally have considerable experience in some of the following areas: primary human airway cell culture, handling and analysing large genomic datasets, CRISPR/Cas9 genome editing and other molecular biology approaches. A track record of publishing research is also desirable.</p><p>The successful candidate will join a friendly, diverse, and supportive research group based in the Biodiscovery Institute. The purpose of the PGTA role is to support teaching and learning in our modules, working with the academic module convenor(s).</p><p>The role relates to 200 hours employment, typically consisting of 70 hours tutorial contact and 20 office hours contact (i.e. approx. 9 hours per week for 10 weeks - semester 1 only), plus 30 hours of associated preparation time, and up to 80 hours of marking and administration. Each tutorial is usually delivered a number of times to small groups of students.</p><p>PGTA roles are open to PGR students who will progress to year 1 from our MRes programme and students who are currently on the PhD programme and successfully progress to their next year.</p><p>To apply for a PGTA role you need to complete 2 forms: a School of Economics form (Form A) to be completed by 15th May 2026, and a University application form which you can complete later in the summer.</p><p>1.             <p id="isPasted">We are inviting applications for a Research Fellow in the Rights Lab, on an externally funded research project funded by Wellcome Trust and working with the Project Lead, Dr Lauren Eglen and other members of the team. The Rights Lab is the first large-scale research platform for ending modern slavery, and home to the world&rsquo;s leading modern slavery experts, and is based on University Park campus.</p><p>We are looking for someone who is committed to meaningful engagement with lived experience and alternative epistemologies towards the co-production of knowledge in anti-trafficking research. Using a reproductive justice theoretical framework that is grounded in intersectional feminist theory, and is committed to praxis, the project analyses the nexus between human trafficking and sexual and reproductive issues. With project partners and those with lived experience of exploitation in South Africa, Kenya, and the UK, this study explores how people understand and apply reproductive justice in different contexts, and how it might be employed in anti-trafficking work. The Observatory is generating state-of-the-art, evidence-driven, and policy-relevant research to improve mathematical education, learner outcomes and longer-term benefits for individuals and society. &nbsp;Its remit stretches through primary and secondary maths education, to undergraduate study and postgraduate research in the mathematical sciences.&nbsp;</p><p>The Observatory is exploring how learner pathways and outcomes are impacted by a range of societal, personal, and educational factors, through the generation and analysis of a groundbreaking primary dataset comprising multiple linked surveys as part of the Observatory&rsquo;s longitudinal cohort studies, and through the analysis of administrative datasets (e.g. the National Pupil Database). &nbsp;It is also undertaking additional evaluation and intervention projects in mathematics education. &nbsp;</p><p>The Observatory enjoys an excellent working environment where our talented, diverse, and inclusive team can collaborate to deliver the highest quality research.             <p id="isPasted">A post-doctoral position is available to take a leading research role in an industry-facing HBLB funded research project entitled &ldquo;Toward Racehorse Injury Prevention: A Computer Vision-Based Approach for Monitoring Behaviour in Stabled Racehorses and Early Identification of Musculoskeletal Injuries&rdquo;, a project to be conducted in collaboration with Vet Vision AI and Johnston Racing.</p><p>The project uses computer vision and artificial intelligence to identify behavioural indicators of musculoskeletal injury &mdash; primarily limb injuries &mdash; in stabled racehorses. Continuous monitoring of behaviour in the stabled environment offers a unique opportunity to capture rich behavioural data to validate a computer vision tool measuring 24-hour time budgets and behavioural patterns, with the goal of developing alerts that flag injury risk during the training season. Vet Vision AI has developed this technology to characterise behaviour in healthy horses and to detect patterns associated with disease in hospitalised horses. This project applies these techniques to racehorse injury monitoring and prevention for the first time.&nbsp;</p><p>Identifying behavioural patterns that precede injury would be a step-change for equine health, welfare and performance. It would open a new area of research into racehorse behaviour and underpin early-warning systems with the potential to change how the industry monitors and protects horses in training.</p><p>This is a senior postdoctoral role that demands deep expertise in equine behaviour and veterinary science, strong industry credibility, and the judgement to lead delivery across academic and commercial partners. The successful applicant will join a collaborative and well-connected research group within the School of Veterinary Medicine and Science (SVMS). The post is primarily research-focused, with some teaching and administrative duties. The role involves significant time working directly with racehorses through the project partner Johnston Racing, and close collaboration with industry partner Vet Vision AI. &nbsp;&nbsp;</p><p>The postholder will collaborate widely across SVMS research teams and contribute to mentoring undergraduate and postgraduate researchers. SVMS was ranked second in the UK for research power in the most recent Research Excellence Framework and has consistently ranked first in the National Student Survey since 2011. The post is based at Sutton Bonington Campus and will involve independent travel to project partners Vet Vision AI (Derbyshire) and Johnston Racing (North Yorkshire). This position centres on developing an innovative optical microscopy technique that measures microscopic electrical impedance, enabling the mapping of the electrical properties of living cells with sub-micrometre resolution, with a particular emphasis on neurons.</p><p>The project aims to address a vital knowledge gap concerning cellular electrical heterogeneity, as current methods cannot yet reveal how passive electrical properties vary within a single cell. In this role, you will conduct impedance imaging experiments on neurons using our in-house impedance microscopy setup, validate results using electrophysiological recordings, apply deep-learning approaches to analyse noisy data, and disseminate your findings through publications.</p><p><br></p><p id="isPasted"><strong>The team &ndash;&nbsp;</strong>You will work with the Principal Investigator and a cell-culture specialist in a friendly, multidisciplinary group spanning optics, electrophysiology, microfabrication and machine learning, collaborating with partners at Nottingham&rsquo;s Schools of Medicine and Life Sciences.             <p id="isPasted"><strong>About the Role</strong></p><p>A fantastic opportunity has arisen for a Senior Research Fellow to join the Power Electronics, Machines and Control (PEMC) Research Institute at the University of Nottingham and become a core member of a team researching advanced electrical drives and control systems. The role will focus on the development, implementation and validation of advanced motor drive and control technologies across a wide range of electrical machine topologies and applications. This includes research into permanent magnet and non-permanent magnet machine drives, high- performance control algorithms, real-time implementation, and experimental testing and validation of electrical drive systems.</p><p><strong>About the Team</strong></p><p>The PEMC Institute has grown exponentially and now has over 200 members, including 24 academics and circa 130 PhD students, researchers and engineers. The group offers state-of-the-art facilities spanning over 3500m&sup2;, capable of handling construction and testing up to multi-megawatt power levels. PEMC is internationally recognised for excellence in electrical machines, power electronics and advanced control systems, with research activities covering design, analysis, manufacturing, control, integration and testing of advanced electrified propulsion and energy conversion systems. The role holder will become part of a strong team working within these state-of-the-art facilities on advanced electrical drive systems for aerospace, automotive, marine, power generation and future electrification technologies.</p><p><strong>About You</strong></p><p>We are looking for a highly motivated and ambitious Senior Research Fellow with strong expertise in advanced electrical drives and control systems to drive forward and support aligned research activities at Nottingham.
